VII. SECURITY & SAFETY OPERATIONS
Access & Egress Control
The Center has established a strategy to secure or “lockdown” the facility and perimeters within the facility to manage vehicular and pedestrian traffic (Appendix C-19) A “lock down” refers to the locking of all entrance and exit doors to buildings and the posting of personnel at these doors to assure that only authorized persons enter or exit.  When appropriate, local law enforcement will assist with lockdown and vehicular traffic control.

Managing Hazardous Waste
The Center has processes for the management of biological, chemical, and radioactive waste in the event that contracted vendors were delayed or unavailable for pick-up during the emergency including waste handling after decontamination and waste handling for isolation procedures (see Hazardous Waste Management Plan).

Biological, Radiological, & Chemical Isolation & Decontamination
For contagious patients or staff in need of isolation, the MSKCC Infection Control Manual and Pandemic Plan outline procedures for isolation and standard precaution (see Appendix C - 21).
